Luxury Sydney Harbour Cruises – Steam Shower

There are several vessels offering two hour “coffee cruises” but if you’re in Sydney and can afford to splurge, one of the nicest ways to see Sydney Harbour in any season is on your own Sydney Harbour cruise boat.

You can charter a vessel to take you and your friends and/or colleagues on a trip around the harbor – with or without food and drink. This will be an unforgettable experience for you. To Steam Shower under The Sydney Harbour Bridge, past the old prison island, Fort Denison, and by the famous Sydney Opera House. You can also ask the boat skipper to take you in close to some of the multimillion dollar waterfront houses on both sides of the harbor.

Sydney has a rich maritime history. One of the most interesting historical events occurred 152 years ago when a clipper ship, the Dunbar, 81 days out of England, tried to enter the harbor in foul weather at night. It was wrecked on the steep cliffs between South Head and The Gap with the loss of all 121 passengers and crew save for one crewman who managed to climb up the cliff and was rescued. The Dunbar’s anchor is now on display at The Gap (a suicide spot) – just a few minutes walk from the public wharf at Watson’s Bay where there are also excellent seafood restaurants – including the celebrated seafood restaurant “Doyle’s” and a popular beach – Camp Cove.

Another popular anchorage is Store Beach on the other side of the harbor off Manly. Every day you’ll see quite a few charter boats anchored there for lunch in the lee of North Head. There’s so many things to do on Sydney Harbour. You could go to taronga Zoo if you want to see unique Australian animals like wallabies, kangaroos, koalas, platypus, dingo and wombats.

Or you could get your boat skipper to take you around to the Sydney Fish Markets which is absolutely fascinating and has a magnificent selection of fresh fish and some reasonably-priced seafood restaurants.

Many people have found no matter what vessel they pick for their Sydney Harbour Cruise it turns out to be one of the highlights of their Sydney visit if not one of the highlights of their life – really it’s that good.

Later on this year, around Christmas and New Year, a true 125 foot “super yacht “ – the motor vessel “Platinum” will be available for charter on Sydney Harbour for the first time. Being a superyacht, a harbor cruise doesn’t come cheap. But it will surely be unforgettable. Night cruises on Sydney Harbour is something else again but only for the warmer months. And then of course there are special events like the Boxing Day start of the celebrated Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and New Year’s Eve cruises on Sydney Harbour .

And for a really unforgettable Sydney Harbour cruise, you could always get married on a luxury charter boat on the harbor.

Finding Hidden Potential In The South Pacific

Finding Hidden Potential In The South Pacific

This Report examining the economic and political outlook for the Pacific island states over the coming years. The report covers Australia, New Zealand, East Timor, Fiji, Kiribati, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu. It identifies key economic, political, security, and environmental factors facing each state, and outlines long-term challenges that the South Pacific needs to address to reduce the region’s vulnerability to exogenous shocks. ( http://www.bharatbook.com/detail.asp?id=129426&rt=Finding-Hidden-Potential-In-The-South-Pacific.html )

This Special Report draws upon the expertise of Asia Country Risk analysts to provide a further geographical dimension to our Country Risk service. The report begins with an overview of the South Pacific region, and discusses how the current economic downturn will affect it. Each Pacific state has its own country chapter, with economic data tables covering the period 2000-2010. The report also includes 10-year economic forecasts for Australia and New Zealand (the dominant influences in the region), and China (whose influence in the South Pacific is rising), as well as latest Global Assumptions. Beyond the recession, the report identifies the long-term challenges facing a fluid and highly volatile, but largely-underreported part of the world.
Executive Summary

Finding Hidden Potential In The South Pacific

Although the Pacific Islands have not been directly exposed to the current global economic crisis, they have felt the second round effects emanating from the developed world. Revenues from the key commodity sector have fallen in line with global trends, while there are indications that tourist numbers are down and remittances from workers overseas have been falling. Tackling these cyclical problems has been made difficult by structural problems including high current account deficits, poor governmental structures, a weak security framework and ethnic tensions within many states. Amid these problems, however, we have identified two key areas in which the region could boast significant economic potential, and two further geopolitical factors which may add to regional stability in the long term.

Commodity Riches: Aside from the region’s potential to move further up the agribusiness value chain, there are still major opportunities in mining and energy in Papua New Guinea and East Timor. Provided these states manage to avoid the ‘commodity curse’, there is potential for high levels of investment and stronger consumer spending over the coming years.

Niche Tourism: Fiji has long been the regional leader in the tourism sector, but there is still plenty of potential for other states within the region to develop. This is likely to be concentrated at the ‘niche’, rather than mass, end of the market.

The Rise of China: The region is already heavily tied to the economic cycles of Australia, New Zealand and the US. Strong real GDP growth in China – and higher development aid flows – offer the potential for another regional anchor to emerge, which will offer opportunities for the commodity and tourism sectors.

Australia’s Regional Role: Australia has started to take a more pro-active role in ensuring political stability in the South Pacific Region. We view this as a positive, given the potential structural and aid benefits it can bring with it. This is likely to be tied towards a long-term move towards stronger democratic institutions, even though this journey is likely to be very bumpy indeed.

Sydney Opera House: A sublime artistic and architectural marvel

Sydney Harbour and Port Jackson displaying Syd...
Image via Wikipedia

The city of Sydney is the largest in Australia and is the capital of the state of New South Wales. It is the spot where the first British Colony was established in 1778. Since then the city has grown into one of the most cosmopolitan in the world.

With a diverse array of people residing and working in this dynamic city it considered one the most multi cultural and multi ethnic cities in the world. It is also considered the 16th key financial metropolis in the world.

There is an array of diverse attractions to explore throughout the city but none are as famous or as breathtaking as the revolutionary Sydney Opera House. The concept of the Opera House was proposed in the 1940’s. The growing need for a central performing arts centre was very apparent due to the cramped and ill equipped town hall showing its age and slowly becoming unable to hold rising audience capacities.

A competition was held in 1955 to choose an architect to help design this landmark building in Sydney’s history. More than 200 applications poured in from reputed design firms and architects around the world. Finally the judges settled on the inspired designs of Jørn Utzon from Denmark. He proposed a series of shell domes enclosing an array of theatres and play halls. The design is still said to be ahead of its time to this day.

The opera house stands at Bennelong Point, this scenic location was originally chosen so that incoming passenger liners to Sydney Harbour could gaze at the magnificence of the modern design of the Sydney Opera House, thus having a truly awe inspiring welcome to Sydney. Similarly the locale allows for the Opera House to be seen from either side of the bay and is easily accessible by rail and bus.

The opera house is built around seven functional areas. The largest of these areas is the Concert Hall; this large expanse is home to the Sydney Symphony. The second is the Opera Theatre. Characterised by swooping arches and an embracing atmosphere, it is home to traditional Bangarra Theatre and the Bell Shakespeare Group.

Below the larger venues lie the more intimate areas such as the Drama Theatre, Playhouse and Studio. These halls are used mainly for single set productions or chamber music.

The Utzon Room is the only interior space completely designed by the revolutionary architect. The space was completely refurbished prior to his passing in 2008. Truly ingenious, the hall utilises dappled light effects from the surrounding harbour and brilliant acoustic techniques to enhance performances.
